Hikes Along the Middle Fork of the Salmon

"When some of the crew said they were going to hike to the ridge at dawn the next morning,
I thought it was an OK idea. When I saw the view, I thought it was the best idea ever."

Middle Fork of the Salmon Hiking

For all but the last 20 miles, where the river enters Impassable Canyon, there is a trail along the Middle Fork. From the main trail, numerous paths veer away and go up canyons and creeks. Most camps have nearby trails that provide stunning views.

Guests joining Idaho River Journeys on the Middle Fork will be with guides who know the canyon well and enjoy hiking.

The river mile notations are approximate. This is just a partial list of our favorites.

Loon Creek hotsprings is accessible from a number of nearby campsites. There is a good trail to the springs. A wonderful hike is to continue past the springs to the next bridge. The trail steepens and affords magnificent views of the Loon Creek canyon before dropping to the bridge. For a longer hike, continue past the bridge.
