Planning Details for the Main Salmon
Below is the essential information you need to plan your Main Salmon trip. In preparing for your trip, it is helpful to print out a copy of our Check List and Trip Details.
Trip Meeting Location
Our Main Salmon vacations meet in Salmon City at 7:00 pm the evening before departure. We assemble on the lawn behind the Stagecoach Inn adjacent to the river. At the meeting we'll answer questions about the trip, give out waterproof bags for your gear, talk about plans for the next day and introduce you to the crew for your trip. The meeting will take about 45 minutes.
Getting To Boise and then Salmon
Many of our guests fly to Boise and use an air charter service or ground transportation for the trip to Salmon. Our Boise to Salmon page offers travels suggestions. Airlines serving Boise include Delta, Alaska, Southwest, Northwest and United.

Flights from Boise to Salmon can be arranged with McCall Aviation, 1-800-448-3413. The Stagecoach Inn provides a free shuttle from the airport for guests staying with them. At the end of your trip, use McCall Aviation for the air shuttle back to Boise. The cost of this air shuttle, Boist to Salmon and return to Boise from McCall, is $360 per person. Driving and Shuttle Information
The drive from Boise to Salmon takes about 6 hours. You can arrange to have your car shuttled to McCall from Salmon while you are on the river by contacting River Shuttles at 1-800-831-8942.

What to Bring
We provide just about everything you'll need, including freshly laundered sleeping bags, spacious, clean tents, waterproof bags for personal gear, camp chairs, comfortable sleeping pads, and, of course, top-notch guides and delicious meals.
- Sun Screen and lip protection
- Sunglasses with strap
- Shirts for camp and to wear on-river
- 2 pair of quick drying shorts or bathing suits
- Baseball type cap
- 1 pair of pants for camp
- 2 pair of shoes for camp and boating (river sandals)
- 2 pairs of wool socks
- Fleece jacket or wool sweater
- Warm jacket
- Polypropylene underwear, top and bottom
- Rain gear (good quality)
- Towel
- Toiletries
- Personal medications
- Water bottle with loop for attaching
- Flashlight
- Camera
- Large Ziplock bags (for wet items & personal hygiene)
Optional items might include a paperback book, binoculars, fishing equipment (rods in protective cases), insect repellent and a fanny pack for hiking. Do not bring radios (iPod types are OK) or firearms.
Accommodations After Your River Trip
On the last day of your trip, our bus will take everyone to McCall. Most guests either spend the night there or return to Boise that afternoon. If you plan to spend the evening in McCall there are numerous motels. Call us for a recommendation. In Boise, our suggestion is the Best Western Vista Inn, 1-800-727-5006.
Travel Arrangements at the End of Your Trip
Guests are responsible for their travel arrangements from McCall and should make reservations well in advance. Our bus usually arrives at the McCall airport by 4 pm on the afternoon of our take-out. See our Boise to Salmon page for travel suggestions.
Fishing
If you plan to fish on your Salmon trip, you'll need an Idaho fishing licence and can get one in Salmon or by calling Idaho Sports Licensing, 1-800-554-8685.
Weather
Summer weather is usually ideal on the Salmon River but mountain rain showers are common. Typical daytime temperatures are in the high 80s or 90s, cooling to the mid-60s in the evening. Early June dates are cooler. Make sure to bring good quality rain gear and a warm, fleece type jacket. Here is a link for the current weather in Salmon.
